Today after visiting the cemetery, I planned to install LAMP in Ubuntu. LAMP, L which mean Linux, is WAMP’s version in LINUX distro’s. Just like the WAMP package, It has all the needed web server stuff. You got Apache, MySQL and PHP.
But you can’t just download and extract them like in weeniedos. In Linux, you can manually install them one by one or use install them at once. Of course, we will install it at once like any practical user. We don’t want to be troubled by installing them one by one right?
To install a ‘group software’
sudo apt-get install lamp-server^
the caret after the word ‘server’ states that you are requesting to install a task or group software (if that’s what they call it)
wait for the packages to be downloaded and installed. You may watch movies first if you like but wait for the mySQL new password prompt. Enter your desired password and you are good to go. Take note that you need to install phpmyadmin separately. It needs some sort of configurations though so I think I will create a separate post for that.
If the installation is finished, you may need to edit your
/etc/mysql/my.cnf to point it to your IP address.
bind-address = 127.0.0.1
You need to restart mysql of course
service mysql restart
One more thing, if your php file downloads automatically when you access it, instead of performing the script and displaying in your browser. You may need to restart apache too.
That’s It! You should see the It Works! phrase in your http://localhost/. If not, well you are on your own now lol.
Oh yeah, btw Happy Halloween
