#OpGlobalBlackOut – Can Anonymous shutdown the Internet?

I was strolling in twitter last night, reading tweets of random people about random stuff. One tweet caught my attention. A tweet from @Pastebin said that March 31 will be interesting. Clicking the link; what I read on the paste is pretty interesting indeed.

The Anonymous, a hacktivist collective, is planning to shutdown the Internet on March 31. They called this #OpGlobalBlackOut. It’s purpose is to protest SOPA, Wallstreet, the irresponsible leaders and the beloved bankers who are starving the world for their own selfish needs out of sheer sadistic fun.

“The greatest enemy of freedom is a happy slave.”

Though they can’t literally shutdown the Internet itself, they can make it ‘look like’ it. The plan is to attack the 13 root DNS servers (listed on the paste) and DoS them. End-users of the Internet cannot perform a domain look-up if they are down, thus shutting down the Internet.

The technique to attack is well explained on the paste. Yes, you can participate. Yes, it is not guaranteed safe.

You can join the discussion through #OpGlobalBlackOut

Besides themes, plugins are another way to customize your WordPress website with advanced functionality and interactivity. As with themes, there are plugins for just about everything you can possibly imagine. But also like themes, it can be difficult to sift through the fluff, and find those gems that truly improve your website.

Thank You for the Music, Karl Roy died at 43

Filipino Rock Icon Karl Roy, lead vocalist of the band Kapatid, Advent Call and P.O.T, passed away at the age of 43 this tuesday March 13 due to a cardiac arrest.

I’ve been informed by the shocking sad news via Mornings@ANC. The news was confirmed by Karl’s younger brother and frontman of the band RazorBack. He was really in an ill condition before he died. Aside from a stroke last 2007, fluids were also found in his lungs.

It was indeed a great loss to the music industry. Rest In Peace Sir Karl Roy. I know, you are in a better place now, and rockin’ in there.

Maraming Salamat sa ibinahagi mong  musika.

“Ang secret dun ay walang sukuan”

- Karl Roy

Have you seen the Invisible Children lately?

Just for 5 days, the viral video that was uploaded last March 5, 2012 by the Invisible Children got over 65 million views! The video is about a short film on who is Joseph Kony and why we need to make him famous.

At first, I kinda ignored the video. I wanted to observe how people will react. Many posts about Joseph Kony and who he is, as if they suddenly knew everything behind the man who is leading the Lord’s Resistance Army. I guess what brought this video to its current ‘viral’ state is Gavin,  Jason Russell’s kid. Though, I have read blogs that it is kind of wrong to include the child in the video. Who cares, it is effective.

You can watch anything you need to know on how to make Joseph Kony famous here.

If you want to have a better view of what is being described in the video, I recommend you to check out the movie called Machine Gun Preacher. It made me teary-eyed. Don’t say that you haven’t been warned. Check out the trailer below

And by the way, do participate at april 20 where they will “cover the night”. I hope I’ll be seeing KONY 2012 posters in our area :D

Please visit their site and participate in signing the pledge.

Frida’s Lament – ANC’s Storyline OST

Staying up late seems to end up well these past few days. I watched ABS-CBN’s Storyline and the OST caught my attention. Not because I liked it at once but because of its soothing melody (yeah trying to sound musically inclined here).

I know a lot of you are searching for the song. Even my crush does. The song’s title is Frida’s Lament and just like how creepy the song is, it is very difficult to find too.

Luckily, I came across to this youtube video. Since it is the clearest one I can get, I clipped it. No offense ANC but I liked the song looping through me player. And just to let you know, all the rights reserved and shit are yours. :)

You can download the mp3 file here. I recommend you too loop it. Been listening to it for a while now. Let’s just not hope that It’ll turn out to be one Gloomy Sunday, if you know what I mean :D

Microsoft Philippines Innovation Universe 2012 – WhoDunnIT and Imagine Cup free for students!

Microsoft Philippines will be holding an event this March 21-23 this 2012. The 3-day event is entitled Innovation Universe. It is an event that is focused on bringing together some of the country’s top IT vendors.

“focused on bringing together some of the country’s top IT vendors as well as established and up-and-coming innovators – from CEO’s to IT managers and professionals. From ISV’s to application developers, students and technology enthusiasts.” (as shown in the front page)

The event is divided into three sub-events. The WhoDunnI.T. will be held at March 22, 2012 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm at the Megatrade Hall, Bldg. B, SM Megamall. This event will be about the new innovations powered by Microsoft Technologies. Mainly, Windows 8 Beta, Windows Phone, Windows Azure and HTML 5. Though, I think the attendees will be split into two (just take a look at the full agenda, didn’t bother asking my friend about that). It will be free for students who are willing to attend.

The second event, Imagine Cup, will be at the same venue this March 23, 2012. It is focused on the top finalists of the Imagine Cup, the world’s premier student technology competition. They will be showing each of their presentations there. Who knows, you can derive a good idea for you thesis. Like the first mentioned event, it is free for students.

Both events above have plenary segments from Dell, Lenovo, Jobstreet and other notable companies in the I.T. industry.

The Server Summit is an invite-only event. I won’t discuss the details for it anymore, since it is for Microsoft Student Partners and those guys from Microsoft only.

If you are interested to register, just visit their website. You may need a live account (hotmail) in order to register. Don’t forget to bring a valid student ID on the event too.

Oh, and by the way, have I mentioned that you might win an Xbox or a Windows Phone?

See you there! :D
